Still my favorite game after nine years I bought The Room in 2012, and even nine years later I still play it from time to time. It’s just that good! The puzzles are engaging enough by themselves, but the attention to every tiny detail in the graphics and animation are what really makes this game shine. Set at the turn of the 20th century, every piece of every puzzle is very ornate, with engraved metal edgings, wood inlays, and lush printed fabrics. The animation in the cutscenes is gorgeous, and even during gameplay there are focus pulls and other perfect details. The Room set a high standard in the “puzzle adventure” genre, which only a few have rivaled. The only downside is that The Room also set my standards pretty high — it’s not enough for a puzzle game to be a feast for the brain, it had better be a feast for the eyes as well! Fireproof did that with all four games in The Room series.
